Aurice Anita York Obituary (1927 - 2020)

Aurice Anita York, age 92, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2020. She was born May 1, 1927 in Roswell, New Mexico to Arthur and Iva Sturman. She married Orland Young and together they had 4 children....Dee Wells, Mark Young, Rose O'Neall and Gail Kettelkamp. Later she married Homer York, and little brother John York was born. Both of her husbands preceded her in death. Aurice loved beautiful things and when she had time on her hands, she loved to paint and craft. She shared her skills with many. Aurice also loved to love on people. For years she invited friends and family to monthly enchilada evenings where her family's recipe was enjoyed by all. She just needed to know if you liked yours with or without onions and with or without the egg as she dished out to her children, grandchildren, great-grand children, and numerous invitees through out the years. Back in the late 1960's, Aurice and Homer opened the Porter Drug and Variety Store, the only place in Porter, Tx where gifts, over-the-counter drugs, sundries and fabric could be purchased for many years. The store went the way of many small business, but for years the left over merchandise kept her busy. Later she went to work for McDonald's as a cook in the Humble Store. Her love of people and creative endeavors made her the perfect fit for corporate work. She had a long career with the McDonald's Corporation working in sales and special events all over the city, notably organizing visits by Ronald McDonald at events and area parades. Her face painting skills were loved by children at many events as she supported grand openings and children's parties. Her beloved brothers, Brad and Val Sturman preceded her in death, as did Brad's wife Bettianne. The heavenly reunion is bound to be full of uncontrollable and inappropriate laughter. She is survived by her children and their spouses, her many grandchildren and great-grand children, and her sister-in-law Pat Sturman. She is also survived by nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She loved her family fiercely, and the family of her family were family. For anyone wishing to send a memorial, Aurice loved her Friendship United Methodist Church family in Porter, TX.
