League City, Texas
With gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate the legacy of Charles Douglas Sr. who departed this earthly life at the age of 77 at HCA Clear Lake.
Born in Shiro, Texas, to Thomas and Edrene Douglas, prior to relocating to La Marque, Texas in 1956. There he attended La Marque ISD, where he went on to graduate from Lincoln High School, where he quickly became known for his intelligence, charisma, and natural athletic ability. His excellence on and off the field earned him an invitation during his senior year to play football at Grambling University-an opportunity that spoke to both his discipline and promise.
Before that chapter could fully unfold, he answered a higher call to serve his country. He enlisted in the army in 1970 and was deployed to Vietnam, where he served with courage and distinction. Upon his return, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal along with multiple commendations recognizing his bravery and honorable service. His homecoming was marked by pride and gratitude, including the joy of returning to his young son, Charles Douglas Jr.
Following his military service, Charles built a respected career at Union Carbide Refinery, where he worked 31 plus years diligently until retirement. Never one to remain idle, he later enrolled in the police academy and went on to serve as a police officer with the Houston Independent School District, dedicating himself to the safety and mentorship of young people.
His commitment to service extended far beyond professional. In 1993, he founded the League City 49ers Little League Football Team, inspired by his 2nd son, Cody, because he wanted to provide a quality team that provided structure, discipline, and opportunity for countless young boys. His impact on youth development and character formation continues through the many lives he helped shape.
A devoted servant of God, he graduated from school of ministry at Abundant Life Christian School in 1998 and faithfully lived out his calling. For over 30 years, he served in jail ministry, offering hope, guidance, and spiritual support to those often forgotten. He was also a faithful giver and active member of Island Church, where his generosity and quiet strength were well known.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Sanfort ,and his beloved sons Chalres Jr, and Zachary Julian.
He leaves to cherish his memory one son, a daughter-in-law, two grandchildren, four sisters Helen, Tommie Lee, Janice and Linda and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, former teammates, fellow officers, church family, and countless young men whose lives he helped shape.
His life was defined by courage, discipline, faith, and service. Whether at home, in uniform, on the football field, in the refinery, behind a badge, or in ministry, he stood as a man of conviction and action. His legacy lives on in every life he touched.
