Charles "Chuck" Thompson

Charles “Chuck” Thompson, 87, of Santa Fe, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026. Known to some as “Chubby,” Chuck was the second of five children born to Charles and Vera Thompson. Born with clubfoot, he overcame early challenges through multiple surgeries and led a life full of purpose and service. Over the years, he worked as a welder, land surveyor, instructor in First Aid, CPR, and firearms, insurance salesman, and musician.
An avid reader with wide-ranging interests—including nature, camping, Indian lore, shooting sports, fishing, mechanics, natural medicine, and dabbling in Bob Ross–style oil painting—Chuck was a practical thinker and a great conversationalist, always ready with a story or solution.

Chuck was deeply committed to his community. He co-founded Scout Troop 620 in Alta Loma and served as its Scoutmaster, volunteered as a reserve Deputy with the Galveston County Sheriff’s Department—earning the nickname “Machine Gun”—and served as an EMT with Santa Fe EMS and later with the SFPD Citizens on Patrol program. In his personal life, he was a devoted husband to Darlene, married for 48 years, and a loving father to Stewart and Eric Thompson. He was a proud grandfather to Kenji, Brandon, and Ethan Thompson, and is survived by his sisters Pearl and Janie Thompson. Chuck often said he had a “good life,” and he is now reunited with his beloved wife, holding hands once more.
