Christene Clair Dinning Obituary (1937 - 2018)

Christene "Chris" Clair Dinning, nee Ewing, was born on August 28, 1937, the third child and daughter of Archie Ewing and Antonia Youck, in Thomson, Illinois. She is survived by her sister, Darlene "Doodle Bug" Baker, currently living in Atlanta, TX, and her eldest sister, Kathleen "Kay" May Ann Webb, currently of Franktown, CO . She is also survived by her son, Charles Ray Dinning, married to Brenda Baker, and Steven Clyde Dinning, married to Teresa Elizabeth Corte. Christene married Thomas Norfleet Dinning, Jr., on March 27, 1956, and remained married until his death on October 3, 1993. Their marriage brought forth three boys: John Thomas Dinning, Charles Ray Dinning, and Steven Clyde Dinning. Together they suffered the loss of their firstborn son, John Thomas on May 4, 1988. Chris worked at Eastern Airlines and Continental Airlines for many years, and indulged in her passion for travel. During her life, she traveled to every continent, and regaled her family and friends with stories of her many experiences abroad. After her airline career was over, she focused on managing the rental properties that she and Tom had accumulated. They lived in Houston for many years, moving a new home on the San Bernard River near Brazoria, Texas, after the boys were grown. She enjoyed her time there, until Tom passed away. They were known for their Fourth of July parties, with a rope swing over the river and an open door policy to family and friends and their friends! After Tom passed, she moved back to Houston to be near her grandchildren by her son Steve and his wife Teresa. She loved her grandchildren, Justin Ryan Dinning and Stephanie Elizabeth Dinning. Chris also shared her son Steve's love for Volkswagens, and spent her last five years or so engaging in activities with the Bay Area Volkswagen Club, going to shows and helping with their charity events. Being with her "second family" brought her great joy. At her request, there are no funeral services nor memorials planned. Please remember her in your own way. She will be missed.
