Crayton Lee Watkins Obituary (1952 - 2025)

Crayton Lee Watkins April 6, 1952-November 23, 2025 Crayton Lee Watkins passed away unexpectedly on November 23, 2025 in League City, Texas. Born on April 6, 1952 in Algona, Iowa he was the youngest son of Harley and Vivian Watkins. Crayton grew up in Iowa alongside his older siblings, Karen Watkins Rhodes and George Watkins. His family then moved to St. Joseph, Missouri where he graduated from Central High School in 1970. Crayton attended Missouri Western State College but chose to enter trade school and become an Electrician. Crayton enjoyed cool cars and driving his young niece and nephews around town. During school he also worked at the local Stetson Hat Company where he met the love of his life, Nancy McClanahan. Crayton and Nancy were joined in marriage on August 17, 1974 in St. Joseph, Missouri. They soon built a family and their first home in southside St. Joseph; they are survived by their children Amy Watkins Eason (Donald Eason Jr), Brett Watkins (Jennifer Watkins), and Michael Watkins. Crayton was a devoted husband and father who always made family his priority. He loved being his kids’ number one fan and supporter for all of their sports and activities; ranging from hockey tournaments, ice skating lessons and competitions, baseball, football and basketball. He joined General Motors in Fairfax, Kansas in 1985. He was promoted several times and loved working in the auto industry for almost 30 years. During his time at General Motors he made lifelong friendships that endured until his final days. After retiring, Crayton and Nancy traveled all across the United States from the Redwood Forest in California to the covered bridges of New England. They then moved to League City, Texas for the last 13 years of life and marriage. In Texas, they enjoyed weekly family dinners and game nights, fishing with grandchildren and watching the grandchildren in all of their interests and activities from band concerts, dance, gymnastics, baseball and basketball. Crayton and Nancy’s eight grandchildren are Harleigh Eason (22), Hayden Eason (21), Harper Eason (16), Cameron Watkins (16), Reese Watkins (14), Sterling Watkins (11), Emma Watkins (9), and Andrew Watkins (7). Crayton’s Celebration of Life will be held in St. Joseph, Missouri later this spring; details to follow.
