Daniel Shea

–

Texas City, Texas

Daniel Joseph Shea died in Texas City, Texas, on November 13, 2024. Dan was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on November 16,1932, to Daniel Joseph and Mary Elizabeth Shea.

Dan was the eighth of nine children and was the last surviving sibling.

At 17 years of age, Dan enlisted in the United States Air Force and served at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio TX, Buckley Air Force Base in Colorado, and finished his service at Harlingen Air Force Base in Harlingen, TX. While in the Air Force, Dan learned to love the outdoors and sports. After an honorable discharge, he relocated to the Dallas area and then moved to Galveston, TX. Dan began his career as a Scheduling Clerk at Monsanto. He retired after 27 years and then worked at St. Claire Equipment for another 10 years.

Dan spent time with his friends hunting, golfing, and playing poker. He appreciated the time he spent in Willis, TX., helping his life-long friend, John Vaselka. He coached La Marque softball and baseball teams over the course of several summers. In addition to being an excellent swimmer and diver, Dan also enjoyed camping and traveling with his family and friends. Although Dan did not attend Texas A&M University, his blood ran maroon. Since his oldest daughter became an Aggie, Dan was an avid supporter of everything Aggie related. He loved attending football and softball games, participating in midnight yell practice, and enjoying a cold one at the Dixie Chicken.

Dan gave 64 years of service to the Knights of Columbus Council #5236 and, at one point, served as the Grand Knight and District Deputy.

Dan was a kind and gentle man until the very end, always saying please and thank you.

Dan is survived by his wife of 65 years Karen, daughters Kelly Lind and husband Ed of Truckee CA, Jan Kenny and husband John of Cypress, TX, Rica Shea and wife Mim of San Antonio, TX, son Daniel Shea and husband Glen Braden of San Antonio, TX. He is also survived by grandchildren Dominick Montelaro and McKenna Shea of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Shea Kenny and fiancée Brook Niederhaus of Galveston, TX, Meagan Kenny of Cypress, TX, Ryan Kenny of Cypress, TX, Madison Shea of Denver, CO, Morgan Shea of San Antonio, TX, and Marshall Shea of Nashville, TN.

A memorial and celebration of life will be scheduled and posted by the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Dan’s honor to either Community First Care Hospice of Houston, 2600 South Loop West, Ste 445, Houston, TX 77054 Attn. Ericka Medinger or M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Our family extends a special thanks to the staff at Solidago Health and Rehabilitation Center, Serenity Gardens, and Community First Hospice Care of Houston for the kindness and attention they gave to Dan.
