Deloris Brumley Lewis Obituary (1951 - 2020)

Deloris Brumley Lewis began her earthly journey on August 17, 1951, in Woodville, Texas and oh, what a wonderful journey it was. She was a sweet baby girl born to the union of Willie and Leanna Brumley. She was vibrant and full of energy. She made a mighty impact during her 69 years of life. She will always be remembered for her gracious demeanor, infectious laugh, kind heart and beautiful smile. Her friendly persona endeared her to many people throughout her life. Deloris was introduced to Christ at a youthful age at Reedy Chapel AME Church, where she was baptized. She remained a faithful member throughout her entire life. She was a member of many auxiliaries within the church, but she loved to use her melodious voice in the choir. Having a special love for children, she worked dutifully guiding the Youth Department where many memories were made. Deloris began her education in the Woodville Public Schools. She attended Rowe High School in Jasper, Texas. She completed her high school education with Central High School Class of 1969. She was a proud Bearcat attending class reunions and getting together with her classmates. Deloris began her professional career as a banker with Moody National Bank. She would culminate her banking career at Regions Bank. Retiring after fulfilling 26 years of diligent service in the banking arena. Although she retired, she did not allow any grass to grow under her feet. She began her new career with Mainland Preparatory Academy as the secretary, but she was more than that to the students. She was an advocate, she shared unconditional love in her role as a school mother, grandmother and aunt; she sponsored uniforms, shoes, belts, lunches; she was the schools babysitter and seamstress too; to the parents and staff she was a confidant, advisor and friend. She was a great resource for all who entered the doors of Mainland Prep. She loved enriching the lives of the students. Deloris cherished spending time with her family and friends. She had a big heart and anyone who truly knew her had to love her. She always had a big smile and warm hugs for everyone she met. If you were feeling down, she would make you laugh. If you were happy, she would celebrate your happiness right along with you. She always had a listening ear and encouraging words for anyone in need. She was a strong woman who overcame many obstacles in her life. She drew strength daily from reading God's Holy Word. She knew no matter what she faced in life; God was on her side. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. Deloris' beautiful and radiant spirit will live on in the hearts of all that knew her and loved her. The Sun did not set on the Life of Deloris Brumley Lewis on November 19, 2020, but rather it shined brightly and danced across the blue sky going to her Heavenly home. She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Leanna Brumley; sisters, Jeanette Brumley, Sandra Brumley, Louella Brumley-Beatty, Bertie Brumley, Jean Brumley-McFarland, Texanna Brumley and Willie Bert "Billie" Dockins; brothers, Glenn Brumley Sr and Clarence Brumley; nephew, Glenn Brumley Jr., and other loved ones. Her beautiful life fragrance will always remain in the hearts of her beloved family, husband of 28 years, Henry Lewis; sons, Roger Brumley (Yomie) and Thomas Morris; sister, Sheila Brumley; grandchildren, Darrington Joiner, Rokisha Joiner, Taylor Morris, Chelsea Brumley, Jacoby Morris and Kearra Morris; special nieces, Sharon Brumley, Glenda Brumley, Glenisha Taylor (David), Glenetta Brumley-Ferguson (Christian), and Sandra "Tootie" Brumley; nephews; Shannon Brumley and Daniel Wyles Jr.; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousin, in laws, church family and co-workers. There will be a Celebration of Life held on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at 11am located at Carnes Funeral Home chapel, 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, Texas 77591.
