League City, Texas
Eileen Gloria Horwath passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026, at the age of 81 in League City, TX with her family by her side.
Eileen grew up in Bloomfield, NJ, where she met Gracie who became her lifelong friend. Eileen and her husband Ron enjoyed vacationing with Gracie and her husband Richie on trips to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, on an Alaskan cruise and to Lake Tahoe.
Eileen met Ron in 1965, and it was a love that lasted forever. Ron was called to active duty with the Navy and sent to Guam. Eileen went to Guam and they were married on Valentines Day in 1970. They went to Saipan for their honeymoon. Eileen attended the University of Guam where her favorite classes were scuba diving and biology. She rode a motorcycle to school and had to evade the Guamanian police after receiving a warning for not having a rearview mirror on her motorcycle. There were no motorcycle mirrors for sale in Guam, so she jury-rigged a bicycle mirror on the motorcycle.
Eileen was known to be a prolific storyteller. She also liked to knit sweaters and sew
her dresses. Her good friend Kitsie taught her dressmaking. She was an animal lover who would take care of strays, including cats, dogs, orphaned baby squirrels and injured wild birds.
In 1974 Ron and Eileen moved to South Jersey where their daughters Dawn and Heather were born. They bought a home in the Pine Barrens, where the Jersey Devil roams. She met a good friend Marge Duggan, and they had many happy times together.
In 1985, Eileen found a book in the library which described the 50 best towns to live in. San Angelo, TX was on the list. Ron and Eileen moved the family to San Angelo soon afterward. Eileen attended Angelo State University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Her first teaching position was teaching third grade in Rocksprings, TX. At the beginning of the next school year, she was informed that Lohn, TX needed a Special Education teacher. She got the position and took the state test and became a certified Special Education teacher. She also took and passed the state tests and was certified in ESL and Home Economics.
In 2004 after the birth of two grandchildren Ron and Eileen decided to move to League City, TX to be near their children and grandchildren. Eileen got a Special Education teaching position in Dickinson, TX and Ron got a transfer to an office in Houston. After retiring from teaching, she obtained her real estate license. She was very proud of her accomplished and talented grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them, including watching them perform in many dance recitals, plays and musicals.
Eileen is survived by her husband Ron and her daughters Heather and Dawn, son-in-law Cory and grandchildren Brock, Allie, Karly, Mackenzie, Natalee, Colt, Rex, and Vance and her sister Kim, two nieces Erin and Amber and nephew Randy. Eileen was predeceased by her parents William and Eunice, her granddaughter Haylee, her sister Barbara and her beloved dog Molly.
The family wants to thank friends Rachel, Hank and Judy for their selfless and unwavering support and the nurses at UTMB for their kindness and compassion.
A funeral service will be held at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, TX on Thursday, April 16 at 1:45 pm.
