Elizabeth "Jane" Callahan

–

Texas City, Texas

Elizabeth “JANE” Callahan passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, January 13th, 2026 at the age of 77. She was born on February 17, 1948, in Texarkana, Texas, to her beloved mother, Sylvia Cornitius. She attended Ball High School, where she graduated in 1966.

At a young age, Jane met her one true love and high school sweetheart, Dan Callahan. The two began going steady on June 1, 1963, and later shared a beautiful life together after marrying on September 12, 1969—a love story that spanned decades and was admired by all who knew them.

Jane dedicated 34 years of her professional life to Dunn Equipment/Maxim Crane, where she worked faithfully as an accountant. Her strong work ethic, dependability, and attention to detail were hallmarks of her career.

She found joy in many things—attending the Houston Rodeo to see Tim McGraw and Alan Jackson, playing Bingo, visiting casinos, watching the Astros games and proudly watching her sons and grandsons play sports. Above all else, Jane treasured time spent with her family and friends. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the center of her world.

Jane was preceded in death by her mother, Sylvia Cornitius; her sisters, Rosemary Strimple and Ann Castille; and her brother, Mike Cornitius Sr.

She is survived by her loving husband, Dan Callahan; her two sons, Danny Callahan Jr (wife Rekha) and Greg Callahan (wife Faith); her grandsons, Alex Lunsford (wife Danya), Kyle Callahan, and Daniel Callahan III; her great-grandchildren, Noah Lunsford and Amelia Lunsford; step-grandchildren Macin Fisher and Taylor Fisher; her very special niece, Debbie Jones; and brother Russell Cornitius.

Jane will be remembered for always being there for everyone—no matter what was needed. Her kindness, loyalty, and unwavering love touched countless lives.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 21st, 2026 from 5:00–7:00 PM at Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, Texas 77591. A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, January 22nd at 2:00 PM at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas.
