Guadalupe “Lupe” Aguilar

Guadalupe (Lupe) Aguilar was called to eternal rest on August 31, 2026. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Lupe was born on October 11, 1939 in Galveston, Texas. She attended Ball High School. She worked as a bookkeeper for Sears for more than 15 years.
After a brief retirement, Lupe worked with her husband Tony at the Texas City Sun newspaper for 8 years. Lupe was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Texas City. With great passion, she served the youth as a camp counselor at Lake View Church Camp and as a Bible School teacher. She was also a dedicated volunteer with UM Army.
Lupe was named Galveston County Citizen of the Year in 2017. She was an avid sports fan. She was an ever present Team Mom of Tony and Mike’s Little League teams. Lupe loved rooting for the Houston Astros, Dallas Cowboys, La Marque Cougars, and the Texas Aggies. Lupe was a competitive bowler, participating in local league play and in multiple State and National tournaments throughout the years.
Lupe was the ultimate Grandmother. She was a strong presence in her grandchildren’s lives, a perfect example of faith and family. She attended all dance recitals, all games, golf tournaments, award ceremonies and graduations. Lupe was always available to help care for her “sweet patootie” Lauren and “Mawmaw’s angel” Jared.
She is preceded in death by parents; sister, Frances Linton and spouse Gene; brother, Ernest Lopez (Daisy).
Lupe is survived by Tony, her devoted husband of more than 63 years; daughter, Yolanda Dowdy (Chris); son, Michael Aguilar; granddaughter, Lauren Patton (Grier); grandson, Jared Dowdy (Caroline), and great-grandson, Pierce Patton. Lupe also leaves behind numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
We are deeply grateful to Leticia and Joe Wilson, and Tiffany and Jim Paul Lester for their unconditional help and support for Lupe and Tony.
Lupe’s family would like to thank Yvette Arredondo, Sheri Reznicek, the staff of Beehive Homes of Hitchock, the Shoal, and all of the medical professionals for their care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church in Texas City, Texas.

Beyond the Sunset
Bill Gaither

Should you go first and I remain
to walk the road alone
I'll live in memory's garden dear with
happy days we've known
In spring I'll wait for roses red,
when fades the lilacs bloom
And in early fall when brown leaves fall,
I'll catch a glimpse of you
Should you go first and I remain, for battles to be fought
Each thing you've touched along the way,
will be a hallowed spot
I'll hear your voice I'll see your smile
though blindly I may grope
The memory of your helping hand will buoy
me on with hope
Beyond the sunset, oh blissful morning
When with our savior, heaven is begun
Earth's toiling ended, oh glory dawning
Beyond the sunset when day is done
Should you go first and I remain, to finish with the scroll
No lessening shadows shall ever creep
in to make this life seem droll
We've known so much of happiness,
we've had our cup of joy
And memory is one gift of God
that death cannot destroy
I want to know each step you take
that I may walk the same
For someday down that lonely road,
you'll hear me call your name
Should you go first and I remain,
one thing I'll have you do
Walk slowly down that long long path,
for soon I'll follow you
In that fair homeland, we'll know no parting
Beyond the sunset for ever more
