In Loving Memory of
H. D. Phillips Jr.
July 25, 1954 – January 23, 2026
H. D. Phillips Jr., affectionately known to family and friends as “Junior” or “Junior Phillips,” was born on July 25, 1954, and peacefully entered eternal rest on January 23, 2026. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose life was a testimony of redemption, perseverance, and love.
Junior shared the last 18 years of his life with April Janisch, whom he always lovingly considered his wife, and with whom he maintained a close, supportive, and devoted relationship.
He was the proud father of four children: DeVincent Phillips, Demetria Davis, Dameon Phillips, and Andrea Jackson. He leaves to cherish his memory his grandchildren: Adeo Davis Jr., Ayriana Davis, MiAndria Davis, Kieran Davis, and Amari Walker-Phillips; and his great-granddaughters: Amora Davis, Jordan Walker, and Sinta Davis.
He is also survived by his loving sisters, Evelyn Arcenaux and Gwendolyn Galloway, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents, Sevilia Phillips and H. Phillips, and his sisters, Mary Hicks, Dorothy Russell, and Michelle Phillips.
Junior believed in Jesus Christ and accepted Him as his Lord and Savior. Though he was not an active church member, his faith remained important to him. His former wife, April Janisch, is a devoted member of Mercy and Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Raymond Collins, where the family attends and visits.
Junior was a hardworking man who took great pride in his work and in doing his best at whatever job he was given. He was a graduate of Massey Business College and worked for several years at Montgomery Ward and later at Zales Jewelers before finding the career he was most proud of at Pilgrim’s Pride in Waco, Texas. After retiring in 2017, he returned home to Houston, where he enjoyed his well-earned rest. He often spoke with pride about his work ethic and how valued he was at Pilgrim’s Pride, the job he obtained after turning his life around following a difficult season in his life.
In retirement, Junior found joy in watching television and movies, proudly believing he had seen just about everything. He loved discovering new shows and streaming services and would often call his daughter, Demetria, to help him get the latest device so he wouldn’t miss a single program. He also enjoyed watching sports just as much as he loved his movies.
Junior had a generous heart, especially when it came to children. He was known for giving his children, grandchildren a little spending money just to bring them joy. If there was a need, he gave without being asked. He loved deeply and proudly, never missing an opportunity to speak about how proud he was of his children and how much he cherished watching his grandchildren grow.
Above all, Junior loved his family. He will be remembered as a man who overcame, a man who worked hard, a man who gave freely, and a man who trusted in the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Though he will be greatly missed, we rejoice knowing he is now at peace, resting in the arms of his Lord and Savior.
