Jose A. Garza Sr.
October 31, 1951 – April 22, 2026
Texas City, TX – Jose A. Garza Sr., a man of profound faith, dedicated service, and immense family pride, passed away on April 22, 2026. He was born on October 31, 1951, to Pablo Salinas Garza and Sarita Kenedy Garza.
Jose’s journey was marked by his honorable service in the United States Army. He married his wife Diane on November 24, 1971, and a few years later they welcomed their daughter, Amanda, in 1973 while stationed in Landstuhl, Germany. The family returned to the States in 1975, settling back into life before welcoming his son, Jose Jr. in 1976.
A man of deep conviction, Jose served his community for a time as a Spanish-speaking pastor at Trinity Baptist Church in Texas City, sharing his faith and guidance with grace. He was a gifted conversationalist and a meticulous keeper of family lore, often speaking with great pride about the Garza and Kenedy legacy and the history of those who came before him.
Jose was also devoted to his livestock. He spent countless years embodying a work ethic and a love for animals that remained constant until his physical limitations required him to finally hang up his boots. He found peace in the barn and took pride in the simple, honest labor of the land.
Waiting to welcome him home were his beloved daughter, Amanda Lightfoot, and his firstborn grandson, Gabriel Garza. He is also reunited with his parents, Pablo Salinas Garza and Sarita Kenedy Garza; his twin sister, Berta Garza; his brothers, Rogelio and Pablo Garza Jr.; and his sisters, Olga Herrera and Elma Garza.
Holding his memory dear are his son, Jose Garza Jr.; his grandchildren, Haley Moyer, Lorenzo Lightfoot and wife Yolanda, and Diego and Bella Garza; his niece, Nina Everling; and his great-grandchildren, Cruz, Sofia, Linkin, and Parker, who represent the bright future of the family he loved so dearly. He also leaves behind a host of extended family and dear friends whose lives he touched through his faith and his work.
