Juanell Jones Obituary (1927

Juanell Jones, 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 14, at Calder Woods Retirement Community in Beaumont. Juanell was born on August 20, 1927, in Abilene, Texas, the youngest daughter of Mack Mattison Jones and Mary Reed Jones. After graduating from Abilene High School, she continued her education at Texas Women's University, where she received a bachelor's degree. After college, she moved to Port Arthur to teach Physical Education at Groves Junior High School. She later pursued a master's degree at Lamar University in Beaumont and took a job at Port Neches-Groves High School as guidance counselor. Juanell retired after an esteemed career in public education in 1988. Juanell was a life-long learner, an avid reader, and a champion bridge player. She loved movies and hosted Saturday Night at the Movies for her friends at Calder Woods for years. She had a keen sense of curiosity and loved spotting potential in those around her. She spoke her mind but won people over with her sense of humor and love of witty conversations. After retirement, Juanell joined her friend Ruth in traveling the world. Juanell was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Reed, Maurice, and Kendall, sisters Jessie and Johnnie, and life-long friend Ruth Johnston. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends. A Celebration of Life for Juanell will be held at Calder Woods when conditions permit. Special thanks are offered to the staff of Professional Health Care Hospice and Assist to Live Home Health for the compassionate care and fun they brought to Juanell over the last year. Juanell requested that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
