Loren Harvey Selleck

–

Houston, TX

Loren Harvey Selleck, 99, of Houston, Texas, left his earthly body to be with Jesus in Heaven and begin Christ's eternal life on June 16, 2022. Loren was born July 28, 1922 in Laclede, Missouri.

Following his military service in the Army in WW II, Loren graduated from Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, Missouri with a Mechanical Engineering degree. He completed his engineering and construction career with Bechtel, having served 23 years in various positions in New York City, San Francisco, and Houston, retiring in 1984. He never understood the term "bored", so following his retirement from Bechtel, Loren opened NOTHING BUT... , a Houston-based company producing handmade cookies based on "formulas"of his creation. He served a number of local grocers for many years from his location in The Gardens of Bammel Lane. Loren enjoyed every moment of every day and never retired from keeping physically and mentally active. His favorite hobbies were cooking, stamp collecting, puzzles of all kinds, reading, exercising, traveling, and the stock market. Loren was a man of many talents and his family treasures the hand-stitched quilts he made.

Active member of 2nd Baptist Church and Ticket to Heaven Bible Study class and a regular at the SecondFIT fitness center. Loren was active and supported his special loves of Miracle Farm and Gracewood. He was a Masonic member for over 60 years.

He was thankful for the many blessings God had blessed him with. These blessings included family, friendships, and memories that were created with each. Loren was always respectful, encouraged and motivated by his humble background and the sacrifices his family made for his care as a child with tuberculosis. He would want his family and friends to know the wonderful difference each of you made in his life. He would have hoped his life reflected Christ and Christ would be multiplied through each of you.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alpha and Mollie Selleck, brother Howard Selleck, and the mother of his two children, Betty Lund Selleck.

Loren loved and was loved by his wife, Karin Anderson Selleck, for over 41 years, who survives him. For as long as he was able, Loren would buy and arrange flowers for Karin (who he affectionately referred to as Wifette) on a weekly basis, bringing her coffee each morning, and meticulously preparing her gourmet meals. They traveled the world making both memories and friends. He was a loving and thoughtful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He felt blessed and proud of both of his two children and loved them dearly. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Selleck, son-in-law William Syfan, and granddaughter, Sarah Syfan. His son, Stuart Selleck, daughter-in-law Susan Selleck, and grandchildren Brian Selleck, Jennifer Ali, Alexander Selleck (mother Debra Moore), great-grandchildren Brinlee, Berkley, Beatrice, and Beau Selleck, Isabelle Ali, Khloe, Kinslee, and Alaska Selleck. He is also survived by members of the Linda C. Anderson family, whom he loved greatly.

He will be remembered by family and friends for being a man who shared his joy, kindness, optimism, wisdom, opinions, and cookies with those that he met. He valued the life that God granted him and the amazing people along the way that made it special. His philosophy was "there are no bad days, just some better than others". He lived each day with an attitude of gratitude and an optimism about what it would bring. Special appreciation and thanks to his loving caregivers, and the nurses and doctors of Methodist Hospital. His body was donated for medical studies..

In celebration and honor of his 100th birthday, a memorial service will be held July 29, 2022 in the Chapel of 2nd Baptist Church, 6400 Woodway, Houston, Texas at 10:00 a.m. Reception following service in Deacon's Parlor, 2nd Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to your favorite charity.
