Lori Shanelle Overshown-Harper Obituary (1976 - 2016)

Mrs. Lori Shanelle Overshown-Harper, 39, daughter of Bennie and Linda Overshown, was born December 6, 1976 and departed this life on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at home with family in Texas City, Texas. At an early age she accepted Christ and attended Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in Galveston, Texas and later joined Willing Workers Baptist Church with her children. She also established a close bond with the Greater Macedonia Baptist Church where she continued to grow in Christ alongside her husband. She attended school in the La Marque Independent School District and completed her studies in cosmetology at Royal Beauty Careers. Lori was well-known in her community and region as the "braid queen" as she was dubbed in her early teens. Even in the midst of her battle with cancer, Lori maintained her upbeat personality, and love for all things of beauty and fashion. Lori was proceeded in death by her grandparents, Elnora and Walter Lawrence and Mason and Johnnie Overshown and siblings Bennie Rochelle Overshown and Eric Roberts. She leaves to cherish her memory, her parents; her husband, Nelson Harper; two daughters LaDasia Phillips and Jona' Overshown; brother, Robert Keith Overshown (Rosie); her two sisters, Belinda Renee Overshown (Natara) and Brandi Overshown; nine nieces and nephews; two special nephews Kevin Parker and Tevin Parker; two goddaughters, Elise and Mauri Day; godmothers, Alice May Lovell and Shirley Overshown; devoted in-laws; Shirley Harper, Nelson Grimes, Claudia Harper, and Lataria Dorsey (Isaac); devoted cousin, Tonisha "Miss" Lawrence; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A Public Visitation will be held Friday, May 6, 2016 from 5-7:00 PM at Carnes Funeral Home 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, TX 77591. A Service to Celebrate Lori's Life will be Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Greater Macedonia Baptist Church 6414 Texas City, TX 77591. Burial will follow at Post Oak Cemetery in Augusta, TX.
