A Celebration of Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 28th, 2023, at St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, 1604 9th Ave. N, Texas City, TX 77590. Interment will follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas. Maria Irene Ortiz, 57, of Texas City, Texas passed away Wednesday, December 20th, 2023, in her home with family gathered at her bedside. She was born in Moline, Illinois on November 19th, 1966, to parents, Paulino Gonzalez and Maria Magdalena Gonzalez. Irene accomplished many things throughout her life. Some of her proudest accomplishments include playing the flute in the Ball High School marching band, receiving her certification in computer technology, and obtaining her insurance license. She worked for Henry Freudenburg Insurance Agency before retiring in July 2023. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank P Ortiz, parents, Paulino and Maria M Gonzalez, and brothers, Bennett Gonzales Sr. and Juan Carlos Gonzalez Sr. Irene is survived by her loving daughter, Angelica M Gonzalez and son-in-law, R. Erick Ortiz; brother, Louis (Rafaela) Gonzales, six sisters, Leticia Maricela (Brian) Murphy, Beatriz (Daniel) Rodriguez, Elvira (Hector) Davalos, Estela Gonzalez, Rosana Gonzalez, and Adriana Gonzalez, and two sister-in-laws Josefina Gonzales and Martha Gonzalez. She is also survived by her numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are David Davalos, Marco Davalos, Gary Lankford, and Juan Carlos Gonzalez Jr. The family would like to express their appreciation to Olivia Leblanc, Beatriz Rodriguez, and Leticia Maricela Murphy, as well as the UTMB Oncology and IR departments in League City and Galveston, and the loving and caring staff at Hospice Care Team Inc.
