Michael Markus Anderson Obituary (1957 - 2019)

Michael M. Anderson was born in Albany, New York on January 25, 1957. He passed away on May 8, 2019 at the age of 62 years, in Houston, Texas. Michael was a resident of League City, TX for ten years and Houston, TX for twelve years prior and originally from Saratoga Springs New York. Michael had an extensive military career of twenty-three years active duty and 1 tour in Iraq as a civilian military contractor performing duties as a Low Source Operator. His military assignments include: Ft. Dix, NJ, Ft. Hood, TX, Ft. Sill, OK, 21st Arty Det. Turkey, Giesen, Germany, Jefferson City, Missouri, Frankfurt, Germany and FOB Kalsu, Iraq. He held many titles to include, Field Artillery Crewman, Assistant Gunner and Gunner, Section Chief, Drill Sergeant, Team Chief, Instructor, Unit Trainer, Sr. Assistant Aide to Assistant Commandant, Project NCO, Detachment First Sergeant, First Sergeant, Reserve Comanche County Oklahoma Law Enforcement Officer and lastly Junior ROTC Instructor. As a military service member he had many accomplishments including the Meritorious Service medal with 4 bronze oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with 1 Silver and 1 bronze oak leaf cluster, Good Conduct medal with 1 knot silver, National Defense Service medal with 1 bronze star, NCO Development ribbon with bronze #3, Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Service ribbon with bronze #3, Presidential Unit Citation, Expert Rifle and Grenade Badge and Drill Sergeant Badge. After military service, Michael became a JROTC Instructor with Houston Independent School District. His many accomplishments as a JROTC instructor include, HISD Drill Team City Championship for 9 consecutive years and even came home one year with The National High School Drill Team Championship. He is preceded in death by his father, Oscar Anderson and mother, Helen Brady. Michael is survived by his Wife, Sherry Anderson and his Domestic Partner, Linda Barba-McIntyre; his Son, Leighton Anderson; and daughter, Krystal and husband Robie Bain; Grand-Children, Alexis and husband Cheljean Erwin-Davis, Makiah and Lucius Anderson; Great Grand-Children Grayson and KyaLynn Erwin-Davis. Michael was a great teacher, instructor, born leader, coach, mentor, confidant and most of all a wonderful husband, dad, grand-father, great grand-father and friend that will be greatly missed. Only in memories will he exist, but he will forever be in our hearts!
