Michael Craig Stanley, born July 14, 1947 to Wanda and Dale Stanley in Texas City, went to be with his Lord at age 64 on September 9, 2011 with his family at his bedside in Texas City, TX. Funeral services are 10 AM on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 I-45 North, Texas City, TX 77591 with the Reverends James Benson and Pastor Rusty Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 13 from 5 - 8 pm.\nMichael was married to Sandra Kelley Stanley of Texas City for 25 years. He graduated from La Marque High School and went on to attend Texas A&M for a short period of time before serving four years in the United States Army, one year of which was in Viet Nam. Michael worked at American Oil Company for 17 years before moving on to become a Minister for Abundant Life Christian Center. During that time Michael felt the Lord spoke to him to serve in the Missionary Field and he and his wife, Sandi, went to Bolivia to preach the Gospel and continued to do so upon his return.\nMichael loved everyone he knew and would greet them with him smile and warm hugs. His love for Christ was shown in his words he expressed to everyone he met and in his reading of his Bible daily. He lived the Great Commission as described by St. Paul, "My life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work of telling others the good news about God's wonderful kindness and love." Acts 20:24 Michael was on earth as he is in Heaven, a Disciple of Jesus Christ.\nMichael's interests included fishing and playing golf when he wasn't spreading the word at local prisons or serving the Island Church in Galveston, TX which he and Sandi attended. Over the past few years he discovered a talent for making hunting knives which he showed at area Gun Shows.\nMichael is survived by his loving wife Sandra Kelley Stanley of Texas City, TX; his parents Wanda and Dale Stanley of La Marque, TX; his three daughters Carrie Lynn Stanley Ake and husband Charles of St. Louis, Mo, Melanie Hightower Wilkinson and husband James of Mooresville, NC and Deborah Hightower Thompson and husband John of Brandon, MS; seven grandchildren, Noah Brannon Ake, Ryan Patrick Ake, Chloe Elizabeth Ake, Lila Ake, Britni Danielle Overbay, Lynzee Charee Sparks and Aleigha McKynzee Wilkinson; brother Thomas Stanley and wife Linda of Grand Lake, CO; sisters Cathy Stanley Pellman of Lansing, MI and Leslie Stanley Johnson and husband Mark of Hitchcock, TX; nieces Jami Caulkins and husband Dale of Flushing, MI, Mandi Cheslock and husband John of Leander, TX; nephews Glenn Stanley and wife Tracey of La Brea, CA, Brett Stanley of Grand Lake, CO, Jason Alan Johnson, USAF and wife Patience of Las Vegas, NV and Christopher Wayne Johnson, USAF and wife Julia of Clovis, NM.\nPallbearers are Kenny Cleveland, Glenn Kelley, Jr., Darwin Neilson, Leland Puffe, Joe Nichols, Roy Waldrup, David Sparks and Mark Johnson.
