Milton Robert Graugnard, Sr.

–

La Marque, Texas

Milton Robert Graugnard, Sr. entered eternal life on May 3, 2026, at the remarkable age of 103. A lifelong Galvestonian, Milton was born to Henry L. and Adeline (Sucich) Graugnard, the fifth of nine children in a close and loving family that remained central to his life throughout his many years.

Milton graduated from Ball High School and began working in the family business, Graugnard’s Bakery, in the late 1930s. In 1943, he married the love of his life, Marjorie Lois Mosso. Together they shared forty-five years of marriage and raised six children, building a strong and devoted family rooted in love, hard work, and resilience.

During World War II, Milton proudly served his country in the United States Navy. After returning home, he joined his brothers Ronald and Henry in purchasing the family business, which they renamed G&G Bakery. Under their expertise and guidance, G&G Bakery became a beloved Galveston institution for many years. Countless Galvestonians celebrated life’s special moments with wedding cakes, birthday cakes, and treasured memories created by G&G Bakery.

After retirement, Milton embraced life with the same energy and enthusiasm that defined him throughout his years. He always had many projects in the works, including baking, woodworking, repairing mechanical items, and finding satisfaction in making things useful again. He loved playing cards and dominoes, golfing, hunting, fishing, and watching the Astros, Rockets, and Texans. He also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad, always appreciating new experiences and adventures.

Above all else, Milton was a family man. He shared a deep bond with his siblings and became the cherished patriarch of a large extended family. He especially treasured time spent with loved ones at “the camp” on the West End, where countless family gatherings created memories that will live on for generations. Even in his later years, he enjoyed visits with his beloved sister, Patricia and sister-in-law, Elsie. Milton was deeply loved by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, all of whom will remember his warmth, humor, strength, and unwavering “never give up” attitude.

Milton is preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Mosso Graugnard; parents; siblings, Henry L. Graugnard III (Selia), Adeline Schurwon (Rudy), Mary Margaret Gottschalk (William), Annette Hergesell (Milton), Dorothy Anderson (Walter), Ronald Graugnard, and Yvonne Smith (Scott); grandson, Richard Robert Roque; son-in-law, John A. Walker III; and loving companion, Mary Neas.

He is survived by his sister, Patricia Johns and sister-in-law, Elsie Graugnard; children, Mary “Mamie” Ormand, Milton Graugnard, Jr. (Donna), Nora Walker, Suzanne Roque, Catherine Graugnard, and Debra Graugnard; grandchildren Kevin Ormand (Tina), Rachel Hand (Matt), Brandon Graugnard (Maranath), Bryan Graugnard (Missy), Michael Chisum (Sami), Jessica Griego (Johnny), Ashley Bennett, Nicholas Roque (Daniela), and Miles Graugnard (Clea) and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will continue to honor his legacy through the love and values he passed on to them.
