Gerald Vowell, age 89, passed away at home on December 15, 2021, surrounded by his family. Gerald was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi on August 16, 1932 to Vera Jewell Vowell and Fred Jackson Vowell. He attended Zama High School in Zama, Mississippi. At the age of 17, Gerald enlisted in the U S Navy to see three combats in Korea. He oversaw the Admirals Barge and self-taught himself many required skills while in the Navy. All of which made him proud to share stories of his military life and accomplishments to anyone who would listen to him.\r\n\r\nGerald retired from G&H Towing Company as a knowledgeable mechanic and a significant asset to the company. He was generous, kind, hardworking, and a devoted family man. His passions were country and western music, and dancing. He was a person who would rather give then receive. Always willing to help his family. Gerald was a proud Master Mason of Fairbanks Masonic Lodge #1363.\r\n\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents, Vera Jewell & Fred Jackson Vowell; sister, Neamio V. Woods; brothers, F. Jay Vowell and J. O. Vowell. Gerald is survived by his son, Darrell Floyd Vowell and Ricky Frieze; daughters, Carla Marie Vowell and Kimberly Vowell Craft and husband Kenneth; grandchildren, Ashley Rene'a Vowell and Kameron Austin Craft and wife Alexandria; four great grandchildren; sister, Eleanor Boyette and husband Harlon; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.\r\n\r\nThe family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to Pam Woods, Patricia O'Brien, Ricky Frieze and Lisa Frieze for all their support.\r\n\r\nPallbearers will be Randy Boyette, Vincent DiValenton, Tiffany Gerhardt, Bo McLaren, Rob McLaren, and Stacy Taylor. Honorary Pallbearer is Harlon Boyette whom Gerald thought of as a brother.\r\n\r\nThe family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 from 10:00am to 11:00am in the Chapel of Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, TX 77591. Gerald's Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:00am with Rev. Ray Pinard officiating. Interment will be at Galveston Memorial Park, Hitchcock, TX.\r\n\r\nGerald will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
