Richard Wayne Barnes, better known to many as Rick or Ricky, was born on December 11, 1954, in Marlin, Texas. He lived a life full of love, passion, and dedication until his passing on June 30, 2026. Richard was a beacon of reliability, always there for those he loved, and his intelligence was evident in everything he did. He was a lover of life and an avid collector of many things, but most of all, he was a devoted family man. His family was his first priority, and his love and loyalty to them were unwavering. As Albert Einstein once said, "Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile," and Richard indeed lived his life for his loved ones.
Richard was a master of all trades and a highly successful entrepreneur. His passion for mechanics and old cars led him to establish his business, Fire Truck Repair Center in La Porte, Texas. He spent his days meticulously working on fire trucks, both local and out of state. His love for restoring old cars, infusing them with new life and charm, brought him great joy. His devotion to his work was infectious, inspiring those around him to pursue their own passions. He was an intelligent man, a loving husband, an awesome dad, a reliable brother, and loyal friend, full of integrity with strong moral principles. He was the epitome of the saying, "The only way to do great work is to love what you do," by Steve Jobs.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Barbara, his daughter Dawn (Waymon) Dominy, his sons Tommy (Jennifer) Cryer, Chase (Sophia) Sowell, and Logan Barnes, his mother Johnnie Witcher, his brother Ronnie Barnes, and his grandchildren Logan Philip, Tyler, Jessica, Kaila, Dalton, Davaia, James, Rachel, Hannah, Zachary, and Elijah. Richard is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Richard was preceded in death by his father Joe Barnes and his granddaughter Courtney Cryer.
An open visitation will be held at Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, Texas, 77591, on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 11:00am CST. This will be followed by a funeral service at the same location at 12:00pm CST.
