Richard Lee Murphy

Richard Lee Murphy was born in Springfield, Missouri on July 5th, 1946. He passed away on Thursday
November 23rd, 2023, in Houston, Tx at the age of 77.

Richard was a lover of knowledge and spent a lifetime learning. Early in life he learned to be a son and
brother. As a young man he excelled in school and enjoyed sports and cars. Later, he joined the Coast
Guard and learned to be a pilot and officer. While stationed in Brooklyn, NY he met Mary Pat, and they
were soon married. Richard then learned to be a good husband and soon a father. As his family grew, he
learned he loved teaching, and after his retirement from the Coast Guard, he returned to school to get a
degree so he could continue teaching. After his retirement from teaching, he continued to learn and
share his knowledge with everyone around him. He enjoyed several hobbies during his life including
scuba diving, fishing, photography, and was a voracious reader.

Richard is preceded in death by his wife Mary Pat Murphy. He is survived by his three sons Richard
Murphy, Andrew Murphy, and Christopher Murphy, grandson Dresden Murphy, Sister Cathryn Gearing
and Brother Bill Murphy.
