Richard Diaz Perez, 71, was born in San Antonio, TX to Fermin and Petra Perez. He was raised in San Antonio and was the \r\nsecond youngest of 11 children. \r\nRichard joined the Navy from 1970-1972 where he proudly served his country \r\naboard the aircraft carrier USS Independence. After his time in the service he married his high school sweetheart Gina Martinez. In 47 years of marriage they had three wonderful \r\nchildren. \r\nRichard's career started in Immigration where he served as a Detention Officer. Soon he became a Border Patrol Agent which moved him to Oceanside, CA. \r\nEventually he became a Special Agent with Immigration and Customs \r\nEnforcement and relocated to Houston, TX and made Houston home. He was known as "El Chuco" by his colleagues and retired after 28 years of service. \r\nIn retirement Richard followed his dream of one day owning and operating a boxing gym. He loved boxing and his passion was teaching kids the art of the sport. He took great pleasure in building champions inside and outside of the ring. \r\nRichard passed away on March 26th 2022 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Gina; three children, Ricardo, Ruben, Veronica and her husband Ramon; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. \r\n\r\nThere will be a public visitation held on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 from 6pm to 9pm at Carnes Funeral Home located at 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, Texas 77591. There will be a second visitation on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 9am with a church service to begin at 10am located at 1111 St. Joseph Parkway, Houston Texas 77002. Burial to follow at the Houston National Cemetery.
