Robert 'Scott' Whitman Obituary (1953 - 2020)

Robert "Scott" Whitman departed this life on Saturday, November 7, 2020 after battling Alzheimer's disease for almost 4 years. Scott was born in Beaumont's St. Theresa Hospital on September 19, 1953 to Royce and Mavis Whitman. He was the youngest of three Whitman boys, and idolized his big brothers Jerry and Randy. His young life included lots of parties around his pool table, Little League, and vacations with the "brothers" and "sisters" from the Travis Drive neighborhood who were like family to Scott. Scott attended Eugene Field Elementary School, Bowie Jr. High, and French High School in Beaumont, making many lifelong friends along the way. Scott had a blast being a French High Buffalo and memories from these years were some of his fondest - especially those with Max, Ray, and Bill, and so many other dear friends that he treasured. Scott and Lily Parigi met as sophomores in high school and married in 1976. Though their marriage ended after 18 years, they remained life-long friends and share as their claim to heaven, two daughters, Lauren and Sarah. Scott enjoyed traveling with Lauren and Sarah and made memories on special dad-daughter trips to New York, Las Vegas, and New Orleans. He loved Christmas and maintained a wild tradition over the years of elaborate gift wrapping and silly notes and clues - keeping the child-like magic of Christmas alive into Lauren and Sarah's adulthood. Scott worked in retail most of his adult life in Beaumont and Houston, selling classy men's wear and always looking sharp himself. Many great friends, both co-workers and customers share years of special memories and laughs with the charming "bald guy from Beaumont!" Scott is preceded in death by his parents, Royce and Mavis Whitman, his brother, Jerry Whitman, nephew, Matthew Whitman, and sister-in-law, Cindy Whitman. Also gone before him are a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends - all surely smiling and celebrating with him now. Surviving relatives include two daughters, Lauren Sathees and Sarah Swain, their husbands Sunil Sathees and Drew Swain, and grandchildren, Kiran, Isaac, and Lena Sathees. Scott is also survived by his brother Randy Whitman and his wife Bonnie, nephew Justin Whitman and his wife Stacy, nephew Matt's wife, Stacey Whitman, niece Jennifer Winter and her husband Greg, along with precious cousins Pat, Kathy, Charles, and Lois, and many wonderful great nieces & nephews. Scott lived life to the fullest, and always had a heart for helping others. He paid for strangers' meals in restaurants, picked up the Starbucks tab for the customer behind him, volunteered serving Thanksgiving meals to the homeless, and showed empathy and kindness to all. He loved to make people laugh and once he met you, you were his friend. The world glowed a little brighter with Scott in it, and he will be missed. Due to the pandemic, no memorial services are scheduled at this time. We look forward to the day we can all get together to celebrate Scott's life.
