Totsie Mae McDonald Obituary (1933 - 2020)

Totsie Mae McDonald passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2020, at UTMB Jennie Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas, surrounded by family. She was born June 8, 1933, to Rev. Robert D. Duncan and Lizzie Lee Baldwin Duncan, in Moscow, Texas. It was after moving to Galveston that she would meet George (Buster) W. McDonald, Jr. They were married on August 16, 1950, their union lasting for 67 years. Buster called it "A Match Made in Heaven". Seven children were born from this union, including Beverly, Sandra, LaVerie (Greg), George III (Brenda), Johnnie (deceased) (Neta), Marilyn (Robert) and Robert (Audrey deceased). Totsie was an active member of McKinney Memorial United Methodist Church in La Marque, Texas for 70 years. She was a faithful member of the Altar Guild for most of those years. Affectionately, known as "Tot," she was known to be an amazing cook--so much so that she shared her skills with La Marque ISD, serving in the cafeteria for over 25 years. She also demonstrated her extraordinary culinary skills at many church functions. Preceding Totsie in death are her husband, Buster; her siblings, Amos Duncan, Jessie Lee Duncan, Robert Duncan, Ruth Duncan and Novis Duncan; her children, Sandra Ann McDonald and Johnnie Ray McDonald. Left to mourn is her youngest brother, Earnest Duncan (Mary). Grandchildren: Joseph Martin, Sherrie McDonald, Michelle Calloway, Gabriel McDonald, Heather Witcher, Courtney McDonald, George McDonald IV (Ashley), Rodney Witcher (Courtney), Deshawn Jenkins (Tameka), DeQuan Jenkins, Tyrone Jenkins, Dominque Wise and Dondre Wise. Great Grandchildren: Imrall Martin, Knyree Martin, Jade Cotton, Jermani McDonald, Paris Simon, Naavyah Jenkins, Isaiyah Jenkins, Shaw Henderson Witcher, London McDonald, Sincere Ford, Gabrielle McDonald, Nikko McDonald and a number of nieces and nephews. Guests are invited to share in a Celebration of Life Visitation from 9:30-10:00 a.m., on Friday, August 28, 2020 at Carnes Funeral Home - Texas City, 3100 Gulf Freeway, TX 77591. Funeral Services honoring Mrs. Totsie Mae McDonald will start at 11:00 a.m., with Interment to follow at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas.
