Til Death Do Us Part…
My beautiful mother & suave father took this vow very seriously! Together for 50 years, my parents stood by each other’s side through all of life’s ups & downs. They raised two children, 12 dogs & 4 spoiled grandchildren. Embracing life with joy & faith, traveling from Amsterdam to Saudi Arabia with pennies in their pockets. These love birds know no barriers!
As a child, I didn’t realize just how lucky I was to have parents who provided everything I needed, a father who coached me, taught me math, laughed with me, treated all of my friends like they were his own & came to every event/sport I participated in. Even if it meant driving to Iowa State in the snow in two days to pick me up and get me to my game. Two wrecks and three rental cars later, he was there with a smile on his face and a story for the memory books. A one of a kind type of spirit!
My father has the mental fortitude of no man I have ever experienced. His fight and positivity is like no other. Over the last 15 years until his last day, he battled 3 different cancers, over 10 strokes, two amputations, multiple clots, a pulmonary embolism and the list goes on and on. It took multiple terminal illnesses to take him down and through it all his only concern was my mom. In his last days with a look of concern he said, “I’m worried about my wife.”
On May 30, 2024, the day the Lord ushered my father to heaven, my mom, me & my dad stood hand in hand in prayer, faith and love. He opened his blue tented, cataract eyes, looked at both of us and he took his last breath. This is what true love looks like! Please celebrate the man, the myth, the legend…my dad…Wayne Beauregard Hawkins.
