William Clarence "Bill" McGuire Obituary (1949 - 2023)

William Clarence McGuire, 74, known to friends and family as Bill, went home to the Lord on June 1, 2023, after a long illness. Bill was born in Freeport, Texas on March 1, 1949, to Lucy Perry Cammack McGuire, a watchmaker, and John Quincy McGuire, a carpenter by trade. He was named after his grandfather, William Clayton McGuire, and two uncles William Thomas Cammack and William Edward McGuire. The family moved to Houston, and by 1960, moved to Brownsville Texas. He graduated from Brownsville High School in 1967 and continued his education at Texas Southmost College acquiring his Associates Degree, where he grew to love library science, reading, and research. After studying computer science in Houston, he worked for Texas Region 4 Education System, and continued working up into senior data management positions at Houston Lighting and Power, Westinghouse Learning in Iowa, South Texas Nuclear Plant in Bay City, Texas, and Ochsner Medical Group in Louisiana. He spent many hours helping his mother and cousin promote the electrolysis business throughout Texas. He married his love, Jeannie Ponder, in 1988 and she preceded him in death in 1996. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and his brother-in law, Dudley Martin. Bill deeply loved Texas and his ancestry to Moses Austin, Stephen F. Austin, and the first family of Texas. He was very knowledgeable of all things Texas and really enjoyed sharing memories at family reunions. He has spent many years listening to older relatives recall family events and stories and was a great resource for his younger cousins. He was a great care giver to many and devoted many years to caring for many friends and family members. He was also devoted to helping raise his sisters and always encouraged them in all they did, well into their adult years. Having lost both parents at an early age, all three siblings remained very close as adults. He is survived by his two sisters, Sarah Livingston and husband Michael of Houston, and Carrie Martin of Del Rio, Texas; his Uncle William Cammack, and Aunt Nancy, and many treasured cousins and friends. Bill wanted his body donated to science at The University of Texas, Health Science Center at Houston, McGovern Medical School where he will help doctors and nurses in their studies. A Memorial Service will be held at Gulf Prairie Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 2p.m. The family is very grateful for all the prayer warriors and exceptional medical help received from so many devoted to providing the best care possible for Bill, especially Chamieca Streeter and staff, and Aspire Hospice, who became family.
