Wyatt Rushing Jr. Obituary (1947 - 2021)

Wyatt Rushing Jr, 'Rassie', 73, passed from this life after an extended illness on April 10, 2021 in Dayton, Texas surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 24, 1947 to Wyatt Rushing and Jimmie Lee Rushing in Beaumont, Texas. He graduated from Galena Park High School in 1965 and attended Freed Hardeman Christian College in Henderson, Tennessee, where he sang with the chorus and Madrigals. In his teen years, Wyatt sang bass with the youth chorus at Jacinto City Church of Christ and in the Galena Park High School Chorus. During that time, he formed a close relationship with Robert Ivy, a lead singer, who later was a longstanding artist in The Master's Brothers Quartet. From those formative teen years, gospel music rooted in his soul and became his passion and method for presenting the story of Jesus. In the Summer of 1966 Wyatt attended the Stamps Conservatory of Music where he studied under J. D. Sumner, a bass singer with the Stamps Quartet. Within a few years, Wyatt and Robert Ivy formed a quartet known as The Master's Brothers and produced four albums. They performed at gospel singings, weddings, and other venues. Later, with other talented singers, The South Texas Boys Quartet was formed, producing one CD, Step Into The Water.The family would like to thank the tenors, baritones, and lead singers, who participated in the quartets and brought much joy to 'Rassie,' who loved to praise God: The Master's Brothers Quartet artist: Lonnie Davis, Robert and Renea Ivy, Craig Spivey, Jack McMahon, Jimmy Burke, Johnny Dunnigan, Mark McClain, David Fears, and the Artist in The South Texas Boys: David Ellis, Johnny Dunnigan, and Forrest Ivy. Wyatt was preceded in death by his son Wyatt Rushing III and his parents Wyatt Rushing and Jimmie Lee Rushing. Wyatt leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and supportive wife of 52 years, Sherry Rushing of Dayton, Texas, daughters Christy Osburn and husband Kelley of Channelview, Texas, Summer Neal and husband Joe of Tarkington, Texas, and son Brandon Welch and wife Stacey of Surprise, Arizona and his brother Lonnie Davis and wife Elizabeth of Trophy Club, Texas, and his grandchildren Logan, Tiffany, Julia, William, Tyler, Zachary, Jewel, Savannah and Carson. Wyatt leaves behind many other cherished family members and friends.
