Wynell A. Young Obituary (1937 - 2013)

Wynell A. Young was called home by her Heavenly Father on December 14, 2013 at the age of 76. Wynell was born on July 5, 1937 at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX and is preceded in death by her parents, Jessie (J. C.) and Millie Armstrong and brother, Jack Armstrong. Wynell was a self-proclaimed "army brat" and was very proud of her father's military service and career. Throughout their travels with the United States Army, Wynell and her family made so many wonderful friends. But it was at Baker High in Columbus, Georgia, where she met her lifelong and dearest friend, Shelba Holmes. In 1958, Wynell and her family returned to Texas where she would begin a 40 year career with Monsanto and Sterling Chemicals at their Texas City Refinery. On June 20, 1971, Wynell, also affectionately known as Wy, married Elton R. Young and three years later welcomed a daughter, Karen. Wynell was truly a devoted wife and mother, always putting her family's needs before her own. She was also a loving daughter who very dutifully cared for each of her parents right up until their passing. She is very much loved by her family and in-laws and so warmly thought of by the many friends and acquaintances that had the pleasure of knowing. Her precious spirit, beautiful smile and sweet voice will be sorely missed. But we will hold on to all the wonderful memories and love that she gave us. Wynell is survived by her loving husband, Elton R. Young; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Paul Adkins, and the grandchildren who were so precious to her, Trevor, Kiersten and Ty Adkins. Wynell was a step-mother to Diane Lipsey and Alan Young, both of who have been so loving and kind to her. She is also survived by numerous cousins who seemed more like siblings to her. She shared so many wonderful childhood memories of them and they were always so dear to her heart. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Wynell's longtime family friend and caregiver, Marsha Moorehead. We can never express enough our gratitude for the care and love that she gave not only to Wynell but the family as a whole. The family would also like to thank all of those that supported and prayed for us during these past difficult years, we will always be so grateful. And to the staff of The Pointe Health Care Center in Webster, we are so thankful for the wonderful care you provided to Wynell in her last few days as well as the compassionate support for her daughter, Karen.
